The competition was fierce. There were hundreds of the best athletes competing from all around the Southern Region. Our 10 year old boys and 12/13 girls relay teams both came 7th in their respective heats. All of our individual event competitors also gave their best.
We are thrilled to have two students that will progress to the State Athletics carnival held next Monday at Albert Park. Jack Schneidereit came first in the 12/13 boys 100m AND 200m sprint events. What an amazing effort Jack! Harvey Anderson came 2nd in the 10 year old boys 800m race and has also qualified to State next week. Sensational effort boys and we hope that you run your best times next week.
On Monday 28th October, 3 of our students represented Oatlands Primary School at the State Athletics Championships. We would like to congratulate Justin (6L) who came 6th in Discus, Matthew (4W) who came 5th in High Jump and Tyiss (6MA) who made it through to the final of the 100 metres, eventually coming 7th. It is an amazing achievement to make it through to this stage and all 3 boys must be commended on their dedication to training and their outstanding performances on the day. Oatlands Primary School is very proud of you!
The Edwin Flack District Athletics Carnival turned out to be a very cold and wet day but it certainly did nothing to dampen the spirits of our students, or take the shine off their amazing performances! We now have approximately 30 children going on to compete at the Casey North Division Athletics Carnival which will be held on Wednesday, 18th September at Casey Fields Athletics Track. This is an outstanding result for our school and as always our children can be congratulated for this acheivement and also commended for their exemplary behaviour and sportsmanship on the day. It was lovely to see our children shaking hands with competitors at the end of races and trying hard to do their very best in all events. Good luck to all the children who will be competing at the Division Carnival.
The Oatlands Athletic Trials were held last Monday, 29th July on what turned out to be a glorious sunny day! Well done to all students involved for your excellent behaviour and enthusiasm. It was great to see everyone trying their best and having fun at the same time! We now have over 50 children who will go on to represent Oatlands Primary School at the Edwin Flack District Athletics Carnival, which will be held at the Casey Fields Athletics Track on Monday, 19th August.
Oatlands Primary School would like to congratulate all students who braved extremely wet, cold and muddy conditions to compete at the Regional Cross Country Trials held on Monday. Competition was tough as all participants at this event represented the most elite athletes from across the region. All students involved are to be commended on their performances and for making it through this far. A special congratulations goes to Kye Arthurson who finished in 10th place, securing him a position in the State Cross Country Championships and Adele Hanley who finished 13th, which makes her an emergency for this event. This is an amazing achievement. Well done!
The annual Oatlands Athletics Trials will take place on Monday 29th July at Casey Fields Athletic Complex. As well as a fun sports day, this event will be used as qualification for our school team (for year 4-6 students only), who will go on to compete against other schools in the Edwin Flack District. Students have been busy preparing for the day during their P.E classes this term and grade 3 children are very excited about participating in their first Athletics Trials! As you can see by the look of concentration and determination on their faces, they have all been trying very hard to master their hurdling techniques.
